#53 – Kananaskis Falls

#53 – Kananaskis Falls

Sept 17, 2017 – After a quick stop at Lower Spray Falls (see previous post) we headed to the last waterfall of our trip – Kananaskis Falls.

This one has pretty much become Seebe Dam which is very easy to find…

From Lower Spray Falls it’s about 15 min away, going right (NE) on Hwy 1 and then going left (N) on Hwy 1X (just before Hwy 40).  A couple km up on Hwy 1X and you’ll cross the Bow River.  You’ll be able to see the top of the dam/waterfall on your right, and there’s a little entry road to park…

To the right is the bridge you crossed with a protective buoy barrier…

And to the left is the main drop…

I say “main drop” as research shows the waterfall may be underwater, or may be another smaller drop nearby.  Next time we’re in the area we’ll see if there’s another tier and confirm, but this is definitely the biggest height difference around.

The volume of water is crazy.  As we tried to go around to get a better pic, the mist reached us through the trees despite being quite far away from the dam itself.  Here are a few pics…

It’s amazing how much water pours through…

Here’s a video…

Here’s a quick selfie showing the kids with their hoods up as we were getting wet from there!

And so concluded our trip and our 53rd waterfall of Alberta together – Kananaskis Falls 🙂
